Dear Volunteers in Action

How are you all? The First Reading for the 16'h Sunday (Genesis IS: 1-10) is about Abraham and Sarah. In the face of seeming impossibility, God is bringing something to birth in their lives. It tells us that nothing is too wonderful for God. This applies to us at this time.

Tardun: The work that we Pallottines (priests, brothers and lay missionaries) have done in Tardun from 1928, when St Joseph's Farm was started to support the Kimberley missions, and from 1948 when a school and hostel were established for the education of Aboriginal students, is coming to an end. Many have given so much in service to our Aboriginal brothers and sisters without which Wandalgu, Tardun, could not have continued. One outstanding example is Fr Gerhard presently at Nazareth House, Geraldton.
In view of changed circumstances, the Pallottine Regional Council enlisted consultants to present possible options that are open to us. Maria Rohr is doing a wonderful job, like a mother to the community. But we need a caretaker couple for the farm and two house parents till the end of the year.

Signs of new life are the fourteen 2004 Pallottine Aboriginal Scholarships from W.A. and other states in health, law and social work, and students like Casey Narrier from Wandalgu who is aiming for the high jump in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Thousands have benefited from their education at Wandalgu.

Fr Eugene San is back from studies in Dublin and is rector at Pallottine Community, Kew. He is busy with chaplaincy at Emmaus, parish supplies, and with YADYM which he and I and a number of young adults are developing in the Waverley Deanery. We had a core leadership weekend, May 16-18th and devised the leadership course for Yrs 10-12 and older (July 4th-8th) both at Casa Pallotti. Twenty-two took part in all, and we are meeting to see what will develop from the keen group of young leaders.

On September 17th Fr Eugene will accompany Fr Ray to the General Assembly in Rome which will focus on implementing the Union of Catholic Apostolate (UAC) worldwide. Our two Indian confreres Fr Paulose and Fr Jude are settling in well; Fr Paul in Warburton and Fr Jude in Riverton parishes.

MY WISH FOR YOU

When you're lonely
I wish you love.
When you're down
I wish you joy.
When you're troubled
I wish you peace.
When your life becomes complicated
I wish you simple beauty.
When you're feeling vulnerable
I wish you inner stillness.
When your path is empty and bleak
I wish you hope.

The UAC STATUTES were formally endorsed by the Council for the Laity in Rome after much effort. It means that the charism of Vincent Pallotti can now be officially promoted in every diocese.

The National Coordinating Council of the Union of Catholic Apostolate (UAC) has been set up to liaise with the bishops and to promote the vision. It is made up of Fr Ray Hevern (Pallottine), Cheryl Sullivan (Mariana), Maureen Rath and John Nagle, (the chair persons of the Local Coordinating Councils East and West), Fr Dean Bradbury (UAC Coordinator) and an executive officer who is yet to be appointed (19 hours per week, and a package up to $20,000).

I am now 3 years in Syndal, having taken over from Fr John Flynn, who returned to be parish priest of Riverton parish. Next Sunday, 25th July will be my 40'h Anniversary of Priesthood and I invite you to the 10.30 Eucharist and celebration afterwards. During the Mass our school students preparing for confirmation will make a commitment.

PALLOTTINE CONGRESS IN POLAND.

There will be a General UAC Congress in Constancin, Poland from 22nd -28th August 2005. The theme will be "Now is the time for a new creativity in charity."
A group will go from Australia. If you would like more information, please contact Fr Ray (08 9354 4061).

The Cenacle Night of prayer and healing is held every 22nd of the month 8.00-9.00 at St Christopher's, Syndal. It is a time of adoration before the lord, in the Upper Room with Mary and modern-day apostles, and aided by guided reflection, scripture and prayer for healing.

Taize Nights are led by Maryanne and Bill Henderson at Pallottine Community, Kew, the first Friday of each month 8.00-9.00pm. Why not come along! We would love to have such a night at Syndal.

Pallottine Family Weekend at Pallotti College, 17-19 September - a gathering of all associated with the Pallottine Family. Fr Dean or Br Lindsay are the ones to contact on 5966 2585 for bookings.

Men's Breakfast at Kew on the first Wednesday of the month, and at Syndal on a periodical basis. Joe Drago organises the Kew meeting and John Staunton the breakfast at Syndal. Both do a mighty job!

Phil and Kerrie Lee & family, and the Team at Casa Pallotti have done a remarkable job in making the place very welcoming. There's still a lot to do, such as cutting firewood for the increased number of bookings through the winter. Volunteers would be welcome for the ongoing development of Casa in many areas: ceiling, base boards, verandah, painting, lawns and cleaning.

It has been a long tine since I wrote, and I hope to amend my ways and write more often. You are in my prayers. Fr John Hennessy, Sr Joy and I send you every blessing, hope and happiness in the Lord.

God bless and keep well,

Fr Pat
