Reflection
A.
The Preamble states about Saint Vincent Pallotti:
"In every age, God has been
generous in giving special gifts of the Holy Spirit to certain men and
women, in order to continue the mission of Christ for the salvation of
all and to promote the growth of the Church. During the
first half of the nineteenth century, St. Vincent Pallotti was among
those whom God enriched with his gifts and inspiration for the purpose
of aiding the Church in fulfilling her mission. The charism
of Pallotti has become the heritage of the Union of Catholic Apostolate.
Its members make his ideals their own and accept his mission."
(Preamble a, e)
or:
B.
Pope John XXIII speaks of Saint Vincent Pallotti:
"The loving saint who displayed
such remarkable love is one of the outstanding figures in the field of
apostolic activity of the nineteenth century. He designed
new ways to lead people to recognize and love God in their lives.
His undertakings, especially the Union of Catholic Apostolate, are
extraordinarily rich in religious experience and instruction.
All who are devoted to the Apostolate have the obligation to pass on to
others the love of God, to foster a fraternal spirit and to work towards
the fulfilment of their ideas with true and constant enthusiasm."

Reflection
A.
In the preamble we read about the charism of Saint Vincent Pallotti:
"Because of the worsening crisis
of faith in his time, and because of the growth of the Church's work in
the missions, St. Vincent Pallotti saw the urgent need to revive the
faith of Catholics, to renew their love and to unite all in Christ.
To achieve this objective he considered it indispensable to secure the
collaboration of all the members of the Church: clergy, religious and
laity, and to unify their efforts in order to promote with greater
effectiveness the apostolic mission in the Church."
(Preamble b, c)
or:
B.
Archbishop Spalding of Baltimore wrote about Saint Vincent Pallotti:
"He was well known in all of Rome
because of his extraordinary holiness. His complete
unselfishness was coupled with penance. His love for all
never faltered or slackened. No difficulty, no cross could
shake his patience. The touching trait of his character was
his all-penetrating love of God and of Jesus Christ. This
love was the driving force of all his endeavours; it was the the true
life and soul of all his actions, it was the key to his serenity, the
font of his courage and that inner peace that spontaneously radiated
from his behaviour." (Letter 20
Jan. 1871 to Raphael Melia, quoted in "Life of Fr. Pallotti", by R.
Melia, pp. VI-VII)

L. |
Father in heaven, we thank you.
Your Son, Jesus Christ,
became a man and lived among us.
He shared our life and was like us in all things but sin.
He called people into his service. |
|
R. |
Lord, we thank you for all
who have sanctified themselves
in the imitation of your Son.
They have taken his message to heart.
They have shared his love with others. |
|
L. |
The saints fulfilled your will.
You transformed their lives more and more
into the life of your Son whose cross they carried. |
|
R. |
Lord, we thank you for your servant, Vincent
Pallotti,
whom you gave us as our father. |
|
L. |
St. Vincent Pallotti is for us the call and the
model.
He is your witness.
Like him we are called to follow Christ
and take up his cross.
In his spirit we are to carry the Good News
to all nations and
peoples. |
|
R. |
We implore you:
grant that we will never cease to regard him as our model
Like him let us spread faith and love among all.

Introduction
|
L. |
Eternal, ever-living God, we gather here before
you.
Your presence makes our community holy. |
| R. |
We greet you on the evening of this day.
Humbly we praise your name. |
| L. |
You have given to the world and to the Church
the witness of St. Vincent Pallotti. |
| R. |
Help us to embrace this witness
and to make it a reality in our lives.
Grant that it may help us
to experience your Divine Love for us. |
| L. |
God, our Father
our hearts are reluctant and slow
to follow the good example set by others.
We seek to excuse ourselves before you
by blaming our our own weakness
or the weakness of others. |
| R. |
Send us the light of your Holy Spirit
to help us understand
that each of us
will have to answer to you personally
for what we have done with our lives.
For this we ask your help,
through Christ our Lord. Amen. |
Examen
Reflection
A.
Our Founder St. Vincent Pallotti writes:
"The Fundamental Law of our little
Society is the life of our Lord Jesus Christ whom we must imitate with
the greatest possible perfection in all that he did in his public and
hidden life for the honour of our heavenly Father, for the
sanctification of our souls and for the souls of all."
(OOCC III 40)
or:
B.
A companion relates about the hour of Saint Vincent Pallotti's death:
"St Vincent Pallotti implored the
infinite mercy of God through the merits of Jesus Christ and of of the
Immaculate Queen of Apostles to bestow the blessings of the Father, the
Son and the Holy Spirit on his companions and the whole world.
Then he exhorted them to love and imitate Christ by a life of humility,
obedience and sacrifice. He edified all by his graciousness
and touching kindness, seemingly indicating his farewell. As
a final word he added: 'The Society will develop and be blessed by God.
You will see. I tell you this not simply because I trust
that it will happen, but because I am certain of it'."
(Oral tradition, quoted in the "Sommario del
processo apostolico per la beatificazione de Vincenzo Pallotti", p.
163)
- Let us reflect that Jesus is offered to us as a
model
in our thoughts, in our speech, in our behaviour. (Pause)
|
- Do we think of God's presence frequently
and with reverence? (Pause)
|
- Do we call upon him often,
humbly and trustfully? (Pause)
|
|
- Let us give thanks for the opportunity
to share in the most noble of all tasks:
to work for the eternal salvation
of our neighbour. (Pause)
|
|
Prayer
|
L. |
In this evening hour, Lord Jesus Christ,
we come together.
You called us and we have followed. |
| R. |
The time of prayer means communion with you.
We praise your Name and call upon your mercy. |
| L. |
Our hearts accuse us:
You gave yourself to others lovingly:
but we think of ourselves.
You carry the cross for us:
but we run away.
We confess our guilt and weakness: Lord forgive us. |
| R. |
Lord, you alone give us the strength
to be your witnesses to the world.
You proclaim the Word,
you give us your sacraments.
You call us to share the bread of your heavenly gifts
with all your people. |
| L. |
Lord, your saints responded to your love.
They fulfilled your commandments
and became a blessing for all who seek you,
for all who devote themselves
to the suffering and to the poor. |
| R. |
The saints fought the good fight and kept the
faith.
You crowned them with eternal life. |
| L. |
Teach us to follow you as they did,
to become all things to all people (Cfr 1Cor 9:22). |
| R. |
Lord, we thank you for this day
and ask you to protect us this night. Amen. |
Intercessions: Keep us this night, Lord...
or Intercessions: Let us pray for
vocations...
Blessing
|
L. |
Lord our God,
give us the peace of eternity,
the morning without evening,
the light without darkness.
Time does not touch you, the Creator of time.
Give us rest during the hours of this night.
Give us peace in the course of days and years
give us peace to the end of time. |
| R. |
Amen. |
| S. |
"God is love
and those who abide in love abide in God,
and God abides in them." (1 John 4:16).
May Almighty God,
the Father + and the Son and the Holy Spirit
bless and protect us
and all our brothers and sisters in the Union. |
| R. |
Amen. |
If no priest or deacon is present, this
formula of blessing is replaced by the Leader as follows:
|
L. |
"God is love
and those who abide in love abide in God,
and God abides in them." (1 John 4:16).
The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil,
and bring us to everlasting life. |
|
R. |
Amen. |
