Reflection

A.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the universal apostolate:

"A number of Roman priests and devoted lay people meditated on the divine commandment that obliges everyone to love one's neighbour as oneself.   They understood that they could not fulfil this commandment unless they effectively used every possible means for the eternal salvation of their neighbour."(OOCC IV 7)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the universal apostolate:

"Everyone: priests, religious, lay men and women, can acquire the rewards of the apostolate, if all possible means, talents, knowledge, associations, professions, occupations, human relationships, material things and prayers are used to renew faith in Jesus Christ, and to increase love all over the world, even if all that they are able to do is to pray.   Anyone can excel in the good of the apostolate and can indeed even exceed the achievements of the Apostles, because God judges the perfection and value of the work of his creatures according to the intentions of their hearts and according to the abilities of each."(OOCC III 145f)

We share your risen life.
Let us not be blind to the signs of your love,
but realize how close you are to us,
who live and reign for ever and ever.
R.  Amen.

Reflection

A.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the need for apostolic zeal:

"Divine Providence obliges us to help our brothers and sisters not only in their present needs but all the more to stand by them in their spiritual necessities.   That is why we have an obligation to support each other on the road to our final destination.   Nobody can be indifferent towards the death of a neighbour.   Indeed, everybody must try to prevent the eternal loss of their neighbour and must use every means for their salvation." (OOCC IV 131)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the foundation of every apostolate:

"God, in his very essence, is love.   He loves us and unceasingly seeks what is for our benefit.   He did this in the most perfect manner possible by sending his only begotten Son to redeem us by his death on the cross.   Since all human beings, as creatures, are living images of this love, they must strive to be perfect in their love for every person.   That is what the commandment of love expressly confirms; that is why each and every person is obliged to contribute to the salvation of all through their gifts of nature and grace." (OOCC IV 308)

Pause

Prayer

L.     Lord, you have given us your love.
You open for the road to life.
R.  Lead us ever deeper into the mystery of your love.
L.  You came so that people may have life
and have it to the full. (Jn 10:10)
R.  You ask us to give your love to others
and to help all to enjoy this abundance of life.
L.  You said: "I came to cast fire upon the earth". (Lk 12:49)
R.  Do not let us rest until this fire has inflamed us all.
L.  Our holy founder Vincent Pallotti
was driven by your love.
R.  Lord, we sincerely ask you:
fill us with the fire of your love,
with the power of your truth,
with your divine life,
until we too are driven to bear witness to you
to the end of the earth.
R.  Amen.

Examen

Reflection

A.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the spirit that should permeate the Union of Catholic Apostolate:

"The practice of love is the complete life of the Union. But woe to those who, though belonging to the Union, would try to violate love.   Blessed, however, are those who try to preserve the love of the Union with all their strength, because they will be rewarded for strengthening and improving the Union in all its apostolic endeavours." (OOCC III 137)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about the importance of love:

"My soul, being a living image of God, is also a living image of Holy Spirit, who is the infinite, immense, incomprehensible love of the Father and of the Son.   This means that my soul has a natural tendency, which aspires to infinite love as opposed to earthly love.   Therefore, helped by grace, I am obliged to profit by the gift of free will to become perfect inasmuch as I am the living image of the the infinite love of the Father and the Son." (God, the infinite Love, Med. XIII)

  • Let us reflect on how we have responded to God's love today,
and ask forgiveness for our sins and failings. (Pause)
  • Let us thank God for all the gifts we have received,
especially for the grace of our vocation. (Pause)
  • Let us consider that one day we must die.
Let us pray for faithfulness and a happy death.(Pause)

Prayer

L. Lord, you resist the proud
but are merciful to the humble.
R.  Give us true humility,
after the example of your only Son.
L.  Deliver us from pride
so that we may never know your silence.
Give us the gift of true humility,
the virtue which obtains for us your grace.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
R.  Amen.

L.  Mary, Mother of mercy,
our community has been entrusted to you
from the beginning.
Protect it now and in the future.

poverty and obedience;
the spirit of prayer and of charity;
the spirit of self-denial and sacrifice.

especially from every form of indifference.
We ask you to intercede for us this grace
from your Son, Jesus Christ.
R.  Amen.

L.  Saint Joseph, your life was entirely devoted to work
and the loving care of the Holy Family.
R.  Obtain for our community the grace
to make all our work holy
and to perform it faithfully as a service to the Church.

L.  Saint Vincent Pallotti,
herald of the universal apostolate,
intercede with God for us
and for all who are inspired by your ideals.
R.  Let us be filled with your spirit and your love,

but the honour of of God,
the destruction of sin
and the salvation of souls.   Amen.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
S. "God is love
and those who abide in love abide in God,
and God abides in them."

the Father + and the Son and the Holy Spirit
bless and protect us
