Pallottine Prayers on Saturday:

Mary, Queen of Apostles"

Morning Prayer

L.     Lord, teach us to pray.
R. In the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Praise of the Lord

L.     God, heavenly Father
we praise you for all that you have created.
We praise you especially for Mary
whom you chose to be the mother of your Son.
R. She intercedes for us
when we make our requests to you.
With her we come to you confidently.
L. God the Son, Redeemer of the world
we thank you for coming to us through Mary.
R. She stored up your Father's Word in deep faith
and obeyed his commands.
She is your mother and our model.
L. God the Holy Spirit,
by your power Jesus was conceived in Mary.
R. We, too, are filled with your power
so that Jesus Christ our Saviour
may be made visible to the world.
L. With Mary we pray:
R. My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

Reflection

A.     Saint Vincent Pallotti says about Mary our patroness:

"Entrust yourselves to the Blessed Mother.   She wishes to remain with you always.   She is the great missionary: our Union was instituted under her protection.   Our community is very dear to her and has experienced her powerful intercession many times.." (Oral tradition. Cf. also OOCC IV 129)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about Mary:

"In his infinite love God places Mary, the Blessed Virgin, the mother of his only-begotten Son, before our eyes as our model.   She followed our Lord Jesus Christ on the road to redemption so closely that she surpasses all angels and saints in holiness, in grace and in justice.   At the same time, through his only-begotten Son, God gives her to us as our mother.   Through her intercession and the sublime example of her whole life we are urged to follow our Lord Jesus Christ and to imitate him in faith, with a deep and trusting love." (Epistolae Latinae 26f)

Conclusion

L.     May the Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil.
May he keep us faithful in his service.
R. To Him be honour and glory for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prayer during the Day

L.     Lord, we come to adore you.
R. In the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Adoration

L.     Lord Jesus Christ,
we greet you in the Blessed Sacrament.
You are with us
in your divine presence and in your human nature
which you took upon yourself through the Virgin Mary.
R.  Praise and thanks be to you in the Blessed Sacrament.
L.  God of glory and power,
you did not keep the power or the splendour
of your divinity to yourself.
R.  You took the form of a servant, to be one of us.
L.  You did not come to be served, but to serve
and to give your life for all.
R.  We thank you for humbling yourself for our sakes.
L.  Lord Jesus Christ,
your presence in the Blessed Sacrament
fills us with great joy and gratitude.
Let us grasp ever more profoundly
this incomprehensible mystery of faith
and profess it through active love before all.
You live and reign for ever and ever.
R.  Amen.

Reflection

A.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes about Mary, Queen of Apostles:

"Both the Union and the community of the priests and brothers were founded under the special protection of Blessed Mary, Queen of Apostles.   Through her most powerful intercession, Mary asks for the graces, gifts and mercies that each one needs in order to achieve, in a successful and lasting manner, the aims of the Union.   More than this, we have in Mary an effective example of the very works of charity and zeal which characterize the Union.   Although Mary was neither a priest nor one of the twelve Apostles, she dedicated herself with such perfection to the work of charity and zeal that the Church accords her the august title of Queen of Apostles not merely as an honour, but because she fully merits this title." (OOCC III 6)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti writes in his spiritual diary:

"Wherever I shall be, I intend to imagine myself to be together with all creatures in the Cenacle in Jerusalem where the Apostles received the Holy Spirit.   I shall remind myself to renew this desire often.   As the Apostles were there with Mary, so will I be in spirit with my most beloved Mother Mary and Jesus.   As they are my special intercessors, I am confident that they will help me and all other creatures to receive the abundance of the Holy Spirit." (cfr. OOCC X 86)

Examen

Reflection

A.     The Preamble states about Mary, Queen of Apostles:

"Mary, Queen of Apostles, is the patroness of the Union.   In a unique way she co-operated with her Son in His saving mission.   She is an outstanding example of apostolic zeal for all the members of the Union." (Preamble k)

or:

B.     St. Vincent Pallotti lets Mary speak in his "Month of May for Clerics":

"As Daughter of the Eternal Father, I promise to obtain for you the power to overcome all the enemies of your soul.   As mother of the eternal Incarnate Word, I will obtain for you the spirit of a priesthood totally committed to the Gospel.   As bride of the Holy Spirit, it is my ardent wish to obtain for you the fullness of his gifts, as the Apostles received them, so that, by imitating the Apostles, you will be able to fulfil the mission you received from Jesus Christ: to seek nothing other than the Glory of God and the salvation of souls." (V. Pallotti, Maria, Immaculata Madre di Deo, Roma 5th edition, 15)

  • How does Mary affect us in our spiritual life
    and apostolic activities? (Pause)
  • Let us reflect that Mary is our model
of total surrender to God. (Pause)
  • Let us be aware of Mary's protection
when our Society encounters difficulties. (Pause)

Prayer

L.     Heavenly Father,
when in the darkness of our days
we are in doubt about the right path,
and your word seems obscure to us,
strengthen us as we look to Mary
of whom Elizabeth said:
"Blessed are you who believed" (Luke 1:45)
R.  Lord, hear our prayer.
L.  When we are faced by so many tasks
and become confused and discouraged,
let us find in the life of the Mother of God,
the sign of a lively hope.
R.  Lord, hear our prayer.

L.  When today through selfishness and false ambition
love is dying in many hearts,
give us, like Mary,
a heart willing to honour you, our God,
and to serve our fellow human beings.
R.  Lord, hear our prayer.
L.  Almighty Father,
you sent the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles
who were gathered around Mary in prayer.
By her intercession send us your Spirit
so that we may be your faithful witnesses.
Help us to work courageously
for the spreading and deepening of faith and love.
R.  Amen.

Intercessions: Keep us this night, Lord...
or   Intercessions: Let us pray for vocations...

Blessing

L.     O God, bless all people this night.
Protect this house and preserve us from all evil.
Let us rise tomorrow with joyful hearts
to celebrate the resurrection of your Son.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R.  Amen.
L.  May Almighty God,
the Father + and the Son and the Holy Spirit
bless and protect us
and our brothers and sisters in Christ.
R.  Amen.

If no priest or deacon is present, this formula of blessing is replaced by the Leader as follows:

L.     The Lord bless us, and keep us from all evil,
and bring to everlasting life.
R. Amen.

Te Deum
